New York covered in snow is an appealing prospect, the temperatures may be a little on the cold side but the ‘big apple’ is properly even more exciting in winter than you ever could have imagined. So, take a look at our top reasons to book a flight to New York in winter, and start planning your dream trip.
Winter in Central Park
Winter in Central Park
There’s nothing better than crisp winter walks in the park wrapped in your favourite coat and hat. New York is at it’s most beautiful covered in snow, and the city gets a lot of snow during the winter months. Who doesn’t want to explore a real life Winter Wonderland?
Winter Street Style
I love winter fashion, stylish coats, comfortable faux fur gilets and chunky knitted jumpers are my idea of heaven. A trip to NYC in winter is the perfect excuse to break out your winter wardrobe and invest in a few more cosy accessories to tread the streets with your favourite hot drink. Pumpkin spiced latte anyone?
Macy’s window display
Much like London’s winter window displays, Macy’s, Saks, Tiffany & Co and many others pull out all the stops on the run up to Christmas with their elaborate festive displays.
City ice skating
The rink at the Iconic Rockefeller Centre is properly one of the most famous ice rinks in the world. Surrounded by iconic landmarks in the heart of the city this rink will be one of the most memorable skates of your life.
It’s not all about Rockefeller though, during the winter months ice rinks pop up all over the city, one of my favourites is the Central Park rink, which is large and surrounded by beautiful park land and imposing buildings.
Less crowds equals less queuing
Visit between January and March and the city will be noticeably less crowded than normal. Which means that not only will Broadway shows and restaurants reservations be easier to come by, but also most of the city’s biggest attractions will have less wait times and it’s hop on hop off buses will be a lot easier to flag.
Those Post Christmas sales
Grabbing a bargain in New York all year round is one of the reasons millions of tourists from across the country and overseas flock to New York every year, however the post Christmas sales are a whole new ball game.
Savvy shoppers take advantage of hundreds of stores offering fantastic post-holiday sales. Home to big brand name department stores and unique boutiques alike, NYC is an ideal place to spend your well-earned Christmas money.
Cost of living
Cheaper hotel rates
During the late winter months of January to March, New York’s hotel’s offer cheaper rates than normal, which makes winter the most affordable time of year to book a city stay – excluding the Christmas period.
Eat for less
During January and February some of New York’s top restaurants offer limited time only lunch and dinner menus at low prices, opening up some of the world’s finest restaurants to the mases.
New York Broadway Week takes place during the winter months from mid January to early February where tickets to the best Broadway shows are half the price!
