If you’re planning a holiday to San Francisco, there are a few things that you’ve simply got to do. From admiring fantastic views to tasting delicious delicacies, San Fran is a city of many wonderful experiences, all you have to do is find the time to do them all!
Walk the Golden Gate Bridge
At an incredible 8,980 feet long, walking or cycling across the iconic Golden Gate Bridge is one of the top recommended activities to do here. Don’t forget your camera as the panoramic views of the city are just breath-taking.
Explore Alcatraz Prison
Take a guided audio tour of the legendary Alcatraz Prison to hear the horrible history of this spooky place. There’s been very few escapes from Alcatraz, but don’t worry, you’ll catch the ferry back just fine.
Take a ride on a tram
The iconic cable cars of San Francisco were built in the 1800s to provide a way of getting up those steep hills without a horse. Today you can take a ride up and down the city’s steepest streets and see the sights as you go.
Catch a baseball game
AT&T Park is the home of the San Francisco Giants and regularly attracts thousands of excited fans through its famous gates. If you’re up for an all-American activity, baseball is where it’s at.
Eat at San Fran’s Delis
San Francisco is home to a number of delicious delis serving up traditional meatball subs, salami foot-longs and a number of other indulgent snacks. As the birthplace of Monterey Jack cheese, you can’t leave San Fran without adding some to your sandwich order.
Soak up the sun on Ocean Beach
While San Francisco is a bustling city, it also has some fantastic beaches. Ocean Beach is a local hotspot for sunbathing, swimming and water sports, or if you’re in the mood for a party, head to Baker Beach where the atmosphere is buzzing and the clothing… optional.
If you’re up for a night on the tiles, San Fran doesn’t disappoint. There’s hundreds of trendy restaurants, bars and clubs to choose from, and even a roller disco set in an old church called the Church of 8 Wheels, if you’re up for something a little different.
Relax at the Palace of Fine Arts
The Palace of Fine Arts is an ornate structure built in 1915 and surrounded by stunning parkland and a scenic lake complete with swans. Take a book or a picnic here and sit beneath the shady trees while admiring the pretty views.
Taste Fresh Seafood
Sat on the shores of the Pacific, San Francisco gets some pretty tasty seafood catches and one of the best places to try it is Aquatic Park where you can grab a filling bowl of clam chowder, or even indulge in some fresh oysters if you’re feeling flush.
Reach the top of Twin Peaks
Twin Peaks is one of the highest points in all of San Francisco and you can either walk or drive to its peak for breath-taking panoramic views of the whole city. There’s a good few stairs to take you to the very top, but it’s more than worth it for the sights.
