Going on holiday with a teenager can be daunting. If you can get them to look up from their iPhone for a second, it will probably be accompanied by sighs, scowls and a “too cool” attitude.
But despite their protests of being “too old to go on holiday with the parents”, there are many ways you can keep your teen happy while on holiday, particularly in a place as exciting as Orlando.
A teenage mecca, Universal Studios should be top of your list if you’re looking for some serious parental brownie points. With an incredible array of exciting attractions, rides and shows including the new ‘Wizarding World of Harry Potter’, and the hilarious ‘Simpsons Ride’, your teen will be the envy of all their friends – and that’s important if you’re 15.
Top of your list at Universal, should be the exhilarating ‘Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit’, Orlando’s tallest roller coaster. Choose your own song to listen to as you zoom through record-breaking loops at 65mph, finishing with the chance to buy a recording of your ride – fulfilling the ultimate teenage dream of starring in a fast-paced music video.
Shop till you Drop
What teen doesn’t love shopping? Particularly when you’re the one fronting the bill. To put a rare smile on their face, take your teen for some serious splurging at one of Orlando’s incredible shopping malls. Who says bribery doesn’t work?
The Mall at Millenia is one of the most popular shopping centres in America with good reason – it’s seriously impressive. Of course, you’re unlikely to be taking your teen shopping at Chanel, but with over 150 stores to choose from including H&M, Macys, and Banana Republic, there’s something to suit every budget. Finish up with a latte at Starbucks and you’ll be in your offspring’s good books for at least the next few days of the holiday.

When your teen mentions surfing, they’re usually talking about the web not waves, but Orlando offers up some serious water-sports to get your kids off the couch and onto the beach.
Ron Jon’s Surf School at the famous surf spot, Cocoa Beach, offers lessons, equipment hire, and even a fantastic surf camp if you fancy getting the kids out of your hair for the day. Available for ages seven to 17, Ron Jon’s Surf School is the perfect way to tire out those tough teens.
Disney Hollywood Studios
As the eighth-most visited amusement park in the world, Disney Hollywood Studios will definitely keep your teenagers thrilled for the day. Divided into six themed areas, your whole family can enjoy the glitz and glamour of Hollywood’s Golden Age with attractions such as Star Tours, a Star Wars themed 3-D motion simulator ride, and the terrifyingly fun Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.
End the perfect day with dinner and a show in the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant where you can catch a sci-fi flick while enjoying the famous All American Picnic Burger from the comfort of your 50’s style Cadillac seating booth. Now if that’s not a perfect teen selfie moment, we don’t know what is!
